Tear out, level, grade, trench, haul and dump are typical when beginning a project.  There might be gas lines for outdoor barbeques, irrigation lines for water features and fountains for creek beds, electrical lines for lighting.  Using the proper amended soil rototilled with your native soil is essential for plants, trees and grass.
